This water storage bassin near Velez-Malaga with about 40 million liters capacity has a very steep – almost 1:1 – outside slope. The material is completely loose landfill. To protect this 5 rows of vetiver at a 25 cm spacing have been planted. Ideally it should have been 3 times as many rows. Which the owner did not support.
It was planted very late so the vetiver plants were dormant over the winter and the started to grow in spring.
Progress will be documented in future posts.
The garden behind the rest of the formerly big sand dune is lower. Less than 2 meters and the garden will be flooded with salty water in winter storms.
